2012 saw the official completion of the Nature Trail boardwalk along Jugger Beck on Fylingdales Moor. The task was started on 11 April 2011 and took the ‘HOOTS’ volunteers a total of 19 working days equating to 189 volunteer days to complete the 335 metres of boardwalk which included building a 25 metre raised section in one place.

Hawk and Owl staff also put in additional days on the moor. All the timber, which was jointly funded by the North York Moors National Park Authority (NYMPA) LEADER Small Scale Enhancement Scheme and the Hawk and Owl Trust on Fylingdales Moor, had to be carried from the drop off point onto site by hand as there is no vehicular access into the valley.

Pictured above is Fylingdales Moor Wildlife Ranger Chris Hansell ( sitting, centre) along some of the volunteers who helped with the task at the ‘capping out’ ceremony. Chris would like to thank everyone involved especially the NYMPA staff and volunteers without whom this project would not have reached completion.
