Norwich Cathedral Peregrine Season 2016 Kicks Off with the Laying of 4 eggs

The Hawk and Owl Trust Urban Peregrine Project at Norwich Cathedral is off to a flying start this season with the laying of four eggs starting on Friday 18th through to Saturday 26th March.  Please see below for specific timings and dates.

(Timings are approximate to the nearest 5 minutes)

1st Egg: Friday 18th at 4.50pm

2nd Egg: Monday 21st at 4.55am  (Time difference between 1st to 2nd egg – 60 hours)

3rd Egg: Wednesday 23rd at 6.25pm  (Time difference between 2nd to 3rd egg – 61.5 hours)

4th Egg: Saturday 26th at 11.00am  (Time difference between 3rd and 4th egg – 64.5 hours)

The build up to this years season has been very exciting with lots of bonding behaviour, where the male has been proudly showing the female the scrape he had made in the gravel of the nesting platform.  For a while the the male and female were making different scrapes at either end of the nesting platform and there was a guessing game as to which one she was going to lay in, however in the end she choose to lay in the males scrape.  Food transfers and ledge courtship displays along with other classic behaviours were seen in the build up to breeding and the laying of the eggs and the Hawk and Owl Trust have been following their developments regularly.  Further activity will be posted online when it happens until the hatching phase which we anticipate will be happening around the end of April / beginning of May.
