Avalon Marshes Unveils its Brand New Tower Hide

This news post has been provided by the Hawk and Owl Trust North Somerset and Bristol Local Group

“Back in December 2015 there was a successful crowd funding appeal to fund this lovely new hide that overlooks the Avalon Marshes on the Somerset Levels.  As Natural England is one of our key partners in the Avalon Marshes Partnership, and has been so supportive of our work on our reserve at Shapwick Moor, our group felt we would like to make a donation to this significant project.  This stunning new hide gives an elevated view over the reed beds and scrape, and the slightly raised lower platform is fully accessible for both wheelchairs and pushchairs.

It was officially opened on 28 April 2016 by Dr Andy Clements, Director of the BTO and a Natural England board member.  Special thanks went out to Michael Sheppard for his beautiful design and to many local companies who helped with the build, particularly ISA Carpentry.  It must be noted that we were rewarded with views of Black Tailed Godwit, Great White Egret, Marsh Harrier and the wonderful booming of a Bittern, what a perfect end to the day.”

Best Wishes,

Carrie Riches
